The Black River Canyon race starts off the King of New York race series. Racers cover a 4.2 mile course making the Black Race the endurance event of the series. There is a mass start above Hole Brothers. Racers then charge through 11 class III and IV rapids with multiple lines that include waterfalls. This event requires stamina, strategy, and skill. A strong contingent of fit and able locals will challenge anyone willing to take on the hometown favorites. The race is run late in the day to give out-of-towners a chance to practice the lines. King of New York tracks the different classes but long boats rule this event. The after-party is legendary. So... Rest Up, Dress Up, and Leave the Kids at Home!

JULY 16, 2015 UPDATE: There is a change to the 2015 format. Racers will register at Hole Brothers from 4:30pm to 5:00pm and then paddle as a group to the I-81 bridge above Knife's Edge. We will then have a "Le Mans" start (out-of-boat start). The race will continue to the rafting take-out in Brownsville where competitors will race up the hill, carrying their boats, and high-5 the time keeper to finish.
